Steilene Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Steilene Lighthouse
The Steilene lighthouse, built in 1967, is an 8-meter post with a gallery. The station was originally established in 1837, and a keeper's house was added in 1917. The current structure replaced an earlier tower. Although the lighthouse became inactive in 2017 and its lantern was removed, the post remains on the southwest end of a small island group east of the Oslofjorden. This island lies approximately 2 km northwest of Fjellstrand.
Why it matters: The station's original lighthouse guided vessels through the Oslofjorden, helping ensure safe passage to Oslo. Today, the keeper's house offers visitors an overnight stay opportunity.
