St. Paul Island South Point Lighthouse

Also known as: St. Paul Island South Point (St. Paul Island Southwest) (relocated to Dingwall)

A cylindrical steel tower, standing 9 meters tall, was first lit in 1916 on St. Paul Island. Painted red, its focal height reached 18 meters. The lighthouse ceased operations in 1964. It was later relocated to Dartmouth in 1981, where a replica lantern was constructed for its original 4th order Fresnel lens. In 2011, the lighthouse was disassembled and reassembled in Dingwall, adjacent to the St. Paul Island Museum, on the south side of Dingwall Harbour. Its geographic range was 12.7 nautical miles.

Why it matters: The lighthouse's preservation through relocation and reassembly, including the safeguarding of its original Fresnel lens, highlights its significance as a tangible link to the maritime history of St. Paul Island and the surrounding coastal area.
