About Søre Kverna Lighthouse
The Søre Kverna lighthouse stood 12 meters tall, a cylindrical stone tower painted white. It was situated approximately 800 meters northwest of Åsegarden, marking a dangerous reef within the inland passage between Lepsøya and the mainland. The focal height of the light was 20 meters. This green light, characterized by a single green occultation, had a geographic range of 5 nautical miles. The structure, an octagonal cylindrical stone tower, was operational until 2014 when it was deactivated and subsequently removed. The site remains accessible by boat, but the tower is no longer present.
Why it matters: This light was essential for safe navigation through the narrow inland passage between Lepsøya and the mainland, warning vessels of a submerged reef.
