Spry Bay Sector Lighthouse

Also known as: Spry Bay Sector (Range Front)

A square pyramidal wood tower with a lantern and gallery, painted white, was constructed in 1916. This 7.5-meter structure served as the front light for the Spry Bay Range, guiding vessels into the eastern entrance of Spry Harbour. The light, which was white, was converted to a sector light at some point after the rear range light was replaced in 1970 and discontinued in 1987. This lighthouse was deactivated in December 2020. The site is open to the public, but the tower remains closed.

Why it matters: This lighthouse was integral to safe navigation, specifically guiding vessels through the eastern entrance of Spry Harbour as the front light of a range system. Its simple, square pyramidal wooden design reflects a common, yet increasingly rare, form of early 20th-century Canadian range lights.
