About South Shore Harbour Lighthouse
Also known as: #South Shore Harbour (Beacon Island, Harbor Island, Clear Lake)
A 30m, 16-sided steel tower, erected in 1983, was situated on an island at the terminus of Lighthouse Boulevard on the southern edge of Clear Lake in League City, Texas. The structure included a lantern and gallery and was distinguished by black and white horizontal bands. It was part of the South Shore Harbour development. The property was offered for sale in 2006, and developers acquired the island in 2011. By 2023, the lighthouse had been removed due to degradation of its support components.
Why it matters: The lighthouse functioned as a notable architectural element for the South Shore Harbour development and was recognized locally due to its unique 16-sided steel form and banding. Efforts within the community to finance a replacement underscore its cultural significance and contribution to the area's identity.
