Ahukini Breakwater Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Ahukini Breakwater Lighthouse
Built in 1926, this square tapered concrete tower stands 6 meters tall on the south side of the entrance to Hanamā'ulu Bay. Originally painted white, the structure's paint has since weathered away. The lighthouse served maritime traffic for a relatively short period, becoming inactive by the late 1940s and later charted as abandoned. The site is accessible to the public, allowing visitors to reach the base of the tower, though the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: The lighthouse was constructed to guide vessels into Hanamā'ulu Bay, a significant entry point on Kaua'i's east coast, and its accessible location offers visitors a connection to the island's maritime heritage.
