About Skjelfiskholmen Lighthouse
A 5.18-meter cylindrical concrete post structure, painted white with a red lantern roof, formerly marked the southwestern tip of Skjelfiskholmen island. The lighthouse, situated northeast of Nord Herøy in a fjord, emitted a green flashing light every 2 seconds. It stood 10 meters above sea level and had a geographic range of 10.4 nautical miles. This post was replaced in 2022, with the active light moved to a new location approximately 60 meters southwest. Access to the original site is by boat only, and the former tower is now closed to the public.
Why it matters: This lighthouse previously guided vessels navigating the waters near the southwestern tip of Skjelfiskholmen, northeast of Nord Herøy, preventing them from running aground on the island.
