About Skarvbarden Lighthouse
Skarvbarden lighthouse consists of a 9-meter high, square-shaped wooden tower joined to the gable end of a one-and-a-half-story wooden dwelling. Located on a rock outcrop near a breakwater pier, it marks the southern access point to Torsvåg harbor in the Troms region of Norway. The light's focal plane is 32 meters above sea level, with a visibility distance of 15.7 nautical miles. Its characteristic is a white flash repeated every 10 seconds. The structure has been inactive since 2024. Visitors can access the site, but the tower is not open.
Why it matters: This navigation aid marked the southern entrance to Torsvåg harbor, assisting local fishing fleets and other vessels in safely approaching the port and avoiding nearby rocky areas.
