Sandwich Point Range Rear Lighthouse

This steel, cylindrical skeletal tower stands 14.5 meters tall and carries a large trapezoidal slatted daymark. The daymark is painted white with a red vertical stripe. Its focal plane reaches 51 meters above sea level, providing a geographic range of 18.8 nautical miles. The rear range light emits a fixed green signal. It is situated in Herring Cove on the west side of Halifax Harbour, functioning as the rear marker for the first range entering the port. The tower itself is not accessible to the public.

Why it matters: This range light is indispensable for maritime traffic, providing the critical alignment needed for vessels to safely navigate the initial entry into Halifax Harbour.
