Risvær Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Risvær Lighthouse
This lighthouse features a cylindrical, 7-meter fiberglass tower topped with a red lantern roof. Operational since becoming active, it replaced an earlier square skeletal tower. The light displays a sequence of two white flashes, with red and green sectors, every 8 seconds. This light sits 8.5 meters above the water and has a geographic range of 9.9 nautical miles. The structure, which includes a galley, is situated on a skerry at the southeastern edge of the Risvær archipelago, near Vågan. Access is only possible by boat, and while the site is open, the tower itself is closed to visitors.
Why it matters: The directional light warns mariners of shoals and rocks within the complex Risvær archipelago, a network of islands and skerries.
