Rauneskjerane Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Rauneskjerane Lighthouse
A 6-meter tall, black, skeletal concrete structure mounted on tripod piles marks a reef in the lower Raunefjord. The lantern sits 4.5 meters above sea level, emitting an occulting white, red, or green light with a 6-second period, visible up to 8.2 nautical miles. Between 2019 and 2020, the lighthouse was moved 80 meters north from its previous location. The location can be visited by boat, but the tower is not open for public entry. Straume, the closest port, is 4.2 kilometers distant.
Why it matters: This navigation aid warns vessels of the submerged reef and helps them navigate the lower Raunefjord.
