About Quinsippi Lighthouse
A 7.5-meter hexagonal tower, painted blue with white trim and a white lantern, stands on a stone base. First lit in 1972, the original light served the Quinsippi Island area. This light failed in late 2011 and was repaired by the park district in 2012. A 2015 windstorm dislodged the lighthouse from its base. Following community fundraising efforts, a new lighthouse was installed in the summer of 2017, resuming its function. The site is open to the public, though the tower is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse guides recreational boaters through a channel near Quincy, providing access to local marinas. Community fundraising was instrumental in its replacement after storm damage.
