Location & Light Range
About Poste St.-Martin Range Rear Lighthouse
The Poste St.-Martin Range Rear light was established in 1977, with the current tower built in the same year. This cylindrical steel tower stands 19 meters tall and displays a white flashing light. Its structure features a square, cylindrical skeletal frame supporting an orange trapezoidal daymark with a black vertical stripe. The station itself was initially established in 1873, with the range separation being increased in 1907. The rear light is now positioned 3322 meters from the front range light. It is located on the north side of the Saguenay River, just off highway 172 at the eastern edge of Saguenay, guiding vessels upstream and westward.
Why it matters: This range light is essential for guiding westbound vessels through a critical upstream section of the Saguenay River, with its significant separation from the front light ensuring precise course-keeping.
