About Pomquet Island Lighthouse

A square pyramidal wood tower, painted white, stands 8.5 meters high on Pomquet Island. The lighthouse emits a white flash every four seconds from a focal height of 9 meters, visible for 10 nautical miles. Its history dates to 1868 when a keeper's dwelling first showed a light through a window. A separate square light tower was added to the dwelling in 1910. The current structure was built in 1959, replacing earlier versions. The station is located in St. George's Bay, about 3 kilometers off the coast near Bayfield, Nova Scotia.
