About Pictou Harbour Range Rear Lighthouse
Also known as: #Pictou Harbour Range Rear
A square pyramidal wooden tower, the Pictou Harbour Range Rear light was built in 1896 near Bay View, Nova Scotia. Painted white, it featured a fluorescent red vertical stripe to align with its corresponding front range light. The structure stood 11 meters tall, with its focal plane at 17 meters. For decades, it emitted a steady white light, guiding vessels entering Pictou Harbour from the north. The range lights were relocated in 1909. This lighthouse ceased operations in 2012 and was subsequently demolished.
Why it matters: As a rear range light, it worked with a front light to create a precise navigational line for entering Pictou Harbour.
