About Petit Forte Lighthouse
Also known as: Petit Forte (1 or 2) (?)
The Petit Forte lighthouse, established in 1929, is a 6-meter tall metal square pyramidal tower painted white with red trim. It stands on a wharf on the south side of Petit Forte harbor, opposite the ferry dock. The lighthouse was relocated to this site and received its lantern from the Long Island (1) lighthouse. Its focal height is 72 meters, and it has a geographic range of 21.7 nautical miles. The light emits a white flash characteristic, and the site is open to the public while the tower remains closed.
Why it matters: The lighthouse is notable for its relocation and for housing the lantern from the former Long Island (1) lighthouse, preserving a part of that aid's history.
