Pelee Island Lighthouse

🇨🇦CAOperational

The Pelee Island Lighthouse is a cylindrical stone tower standing 18 meters tall, built in 1833 on Lighthouse Point at the northern tip of Pelee Island in Lake Erie. This round rubblestone structure originally featured a lantern and gallery. After becoming inactive in 1909, the lighthouse fell into disrepair. A community group, the Relight the Lighthouse Committee, undertook a restoration between 1999 and 2000. The tower is currently threatened by wave action and is protected by riprap. Access to the site is available, though the tower itself remains closed to the public.

Why it matters: This lighthouse marks Lighthouse Point, a significant navigational feature at the northern end of Pelee Island. Its early 19th-century rubblestone construction is a rare example of its type in the region.
