About Parrsboro Lighthouse
This white, cylindrical concrete tower stands 6.5 meters tall with a focal height of 8 meters. It was built in 1980 to mark the entrance to Parrsboro Harbour, replacing an earlier structure lost to beach erosion in 1945. The current lighthouse displays a green flashing light on a 6-second cycle. Its structure consists of a square cylindrical tower with a lantern and gallery attached to a one-story fog signal building. The site is open to the public, though the tower remains closed as restoration efforts continue. The Parrsboro Lighthouse Society was formed in 2014 to aid in its preservation.
Why it matters: This lighthouse warns mariners of Partridge Island at the entrance to Parrsboro Harbour, guiding them through the Minas Basin. Community-led restoration efforts highlight its cultural significance and draw interest in its preservation.
