Location & Light Range
About Ottøya Lighthouse
This square wooden tower with a lantern and gallery stands 6 meters tall, with its focal height reaching 28 meters. Painted white with two black horizontal bands and a red roof, it is situated atop a cliff at the north end of Ottøy, opposite Marvik. The lighthouse emits an occulting white, red, or green light every 6 seconds, with a geographic range of 14.9 nautical miles. It replaced an earlier square wood tower.
Why it matters: The lighthouse guides vessels navigating the passage between Ottøy and Marvik, warning them of the cliff-lined northern end of Ottøy. Its directional light provides tailored guidance based on approach.
