About Oseto No. 1 Range Rear Lighthouse
This concrete cylindrical tower, standing 12 meters tall, was first lit in 1966. It is located on a hill in Tamukeyama Park, within Kitakyushu. The structure features a square base and a white exterior. Within a triangular daymark, the light is displayed as a panel of horizontal neon tubes. The lighthouse was rebuilt in 2013. Its focal height is 78 meters, and it has a geographic range of 22.4 nautical miles. The site is open to the public, but the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: As the rear range light, it works with a front light 260 meters away to provide a precise alignment cue for vessels navigating the waters near the nearest port of Kokura.
