About OpenSeaMap Lighthouse
This cylindrical stone tower, standing 12 meters tall, was constructed in 1842 and first lit in the same year. Located on a small island approximately 1.5 kilometers offshore from Averøy in the Nordmøre region, the lighthouse is about 8 kilometers west of Averøy. The structure is an old-style stone tower, and its lantern has since been removed. The lighthouse has been inactive since 1956. A group called Kvitholmens Venner is currently undertaking its restoration.
Why it matters: The station represents a distinct period of Norwegian lighthouse construction with its old-style stone tower and served as an early navigational aid in the Nordmøre region.
