About Newcastle Lighthouse
The original Newcastle Lighthouse was first lit in 1846 to mark the harbor entrance on Lake Ontario, east of Toronto. This structure no longer stands. Following its decommissioning in 1914, the lighthouse was removed and replaced by a smaller beacon at the harbor entrance. The original structure served as a navigational aid for nearly seven decades. The nearest port, Bowmanville, is 4.8 kilometers away.
