Midland Point Range Front Lighthouse

🇨🇦Midland, CAOperational

The Midland Point Range Front Lighthouse, a square pyramidal wood tower, was built in 1900. Originally serving as the rear light for an earlier range, its role changed in 1913 when the range was reoriented. The structure was then adapted to serve as the front light for this new range. Its original front light was moved to Turning Rock in 1915. The tower stands 14.5 meters tall and is painted white with red trim and a red vertical stripe along its former range line. It ceased operation in the late 1990s and is now under private ownership, no longer accessible to the public.

Why it matters: The lighthouse's history of reorientation highlights the adaptive nature of navigational aids to changing shipping needs.
