Michael's Point Lighthouse

🇨🇦Central Manitoulin, CAOperational

Also known as: Michael's Point (Michael's Bay) (replica)

This octagonal wood tower, standing 6 meters high, is painted white with red trim. It features a lantern and gallery, and was built in 2005 by local residents. The current structure is a replica, designed from scant remains as no plans or images of the original survived. The original lighthouse, established in 1870, was discontinued in 1909 and collapsed in 1947. The replica was vandalized in the early 2020s and subsequently restored by volunteers by 2025. The lighthouse, now an inactive decorative light, is located on private property and inaccessible to the public.

Why it matters: The original lighthouse marked a hazard for mariners entering Michael's Bay. The current replica reflects community dedication to preserving maritime heritage.
