About Mangalia Northeast Breakwater Spur Lighthouse
Established in 1979, this lighthouse marks the termination of a spur extending from the northeast breakwater at Mangalia, Romania. The cylindrical structure, built from masonry, stands 13 meters tall and features a lantern and gallery. It is attached to a two-story masonry pier house. The light emits a single green flash every three seconds, visible for nearly 12 nautical miles. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself is not accessible. It guides vessels navigating the Black Sea waters near the port of Mangalia.
Why it matters: This lighthouse serves to clearly delineate the harbor entrance, protecting ships from the breakwater's submerged hazards and guiding them safely into and out of Mangalia's port.
