About Malmö Vågbrytarbank Lighthouse
Also known as: Malmö Vågbrytarbank (Outer Breakwater)
This lighthouse is a white, cylindrical concrete tower with a gallery, standing 12 meters tall on a round stone base. It is situated on a rocky shoal about 300 meters west of the north breakwater, marking the entrance to Malmö harbor. A submerged breakwater composed of dredge spoil connects the shoal to the shore. The light emits a composite white, red, and green signal, with a single flash every 10 seconds, visible for approximately 10.7 nautical miles. The original lantern has since been replaced with a modern lighting system.
Why it matters: The lighthouse warns vessels of the hazardous shoal near the Malmö harbor entrance and guides them through this busy shipping lane.
