Bergudden Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Bergudden Lighthouse
A square wooden tower covered in shingles stands 18 meters tall on the west side of Holmön island. Built in 1896, it replaced an earlier station established in 1884. The light, displayed through a large square window, shows occulting white, red, and green light on a 6-second cycle, with a geographic range of 12.7 nautical miles. The tower features a gallery and a pyramidal metal roof. The station has been leased to the Holmöns Folklore Society and converted into a hostel, with the tower accessible to the public on International Lighthouse Day.
Why it matters: The lighthouse is significant for its unique shingle-covered wood tower construction and its transformation into a cultural and tourism destination by the Holmöns Folklore Society.
