About Blackkallen Lighthouse
The Blackkallen lighthouse is a 13-meter cylindrical concrete tower with a lantern and gallery, situated on a conical concrete base. It is painted white with a single black horizontal band. The station was established in 1907, but the current tower was built in 1921. Located on a small island approximately 10 kilometers east of Lövånger in Västerbotten County, it served the coastal waters near Skellefteå kommun. Its geographic range was 11.2 nautical miles. The lighthouse became inactive in 2014 and is no longer operational.
Why it matters: The lighthouse's construction, featuring a round cylindrical concrete tower on a conical base, represents early 20th-century lighthouse engineering in the region. Its position east of Lövånger was important for guiding coastal traffic.
