About Malmö Hamn Lighthouse
Also known as: Malmö Hamn (Range Front)
The Malmö Hamn lighthouse is an octagonal cast iron tower built in 1925. Standing 8 meters tall, it is painted white with a distinctive green horizontal band. Originally serving as the front light of a harbor range, it marked the entrance to Malmö's port. This octagonal structure, complete with a lantern and gallery, was situated on a short pier at the end of Hjälmarekajen quay. The lighthouse became inactive in 1983 following harbor expansions that altered the approach to the port. Today, the pier extends into the Frihamn basin.
Why it matters: This lighthouse marks the evolution of Malmö's port infrastructure and its shipping approaches.
