About Makgaedo Lighthouse
Also known as: Makgaedo (Maggaedo, Makkae Do)
Makgaedo Lighthouse stands on a small island within Masan Bay, marking the main channel approximately 6 kilometers south of Masan. The current 15-meter cylindrical concrete tower, topped with a lantern and gallery, became operational in the early 2010s. This structure replaced an earlier, shorter beacon that lacked a lantern. Its white light flashes once every 6 seconds, visible for over 14 nautical miles. The site is accessible, but the tower itself remains closed to the public.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is essential for guiding vessels through the main channel of Masan Bay, helping them navigate safely.
