About Lyktlangholmen Lighthouse
Also known as: Lyktlangholmen (Ytre Langholmen)
Lyktlangholmen is an octagonal fiberglass tower standing 8 meters tall, painted white with two black horizontal bands. Its focal height reaches 12.5 meters, and it emits a light visible for 11.2 nautical miles. The operational light displays a white, red, and green signal, with a cycle of a white, red, or green flash every 5 seconds. This structure replaced an earlier lantern mounted on a platform supported by four piles. The site is open to the public, but the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is indispensable for vessels entering the Ytrefjord, marking the beginning of an inside passage to Trondheim. Its sector light system precisely delineates safe channels around the reef it occupies.
