A square pyramidal wood tower with a lantern, this lighthouse stands 8 meters tall. Built in 1910, it was first lit the same year on an island at the lower end of Lower Allumette Lake, about 8 km north of Waltham. Inactive since the 1920s, the structure has been abandoned for eight decades. It is now embedded in vegetation and descending into ruin. The lighthouse has been recently rediscovered after being lost for many years.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is a rare surviving example of early 20th-century navigational aids on inland Canadian lakes. Its recent rediscovery and endangered status highlight the need for preservation efforts.
