The Lockeport lighthouse, a white cylindrical tower standing 13.5 meters tall, was built in 1948. It rises from the remnants of a two-story keeper's house on a small, rocky island at the entrance to Lockeport Harbour. The focal height of the light is 17 meters, with a geographic range of 12.4 nautical miles. The light produces a single white flash every 15 seconds. Although the lighthouse station was established earlier, this current structure incorporates parts of the original dwelling. The site is open to the public, but the tower itself remains closed.
Why it matters: Formed in 2015, the Protect Gull Rock Lighthouse group has raised concerns about the lighthouse's imminent collapse, drawing attention to its precarious state.
