Constructed in 1906, this cylindrical concrete tower stood 23.5 meters tall and was painted white. It featured six buttresses, reinforcing its unique construction. Established in 1865, the lighthouse station guided mariners in Cadden Bay, Nova Scotia, for nearly a century. In September 2003, Hurricane Juan caused significant damage to the structure. A nor'easter on December 7, 2003, subsequently toppled the lighthouse. A navigational buoy now marks the site, which is accessible by boat.
Why it matters: The lighthouse was a notable example of early 20th-century concrete construction with its six buttresses. Its 2003 destruction by severe weather illustrates the challenges faced by coastal structures in the North Atlantic.
