A square, 1-story wood building standing 8 meters tall, the Little Current South Lighthouse replica was constructed in 2012. It features a white exterior with a red lantern and a bird-cage style lantern centered on its roof. The original lighthouse, built in 1867, was decommissioned in 1907. This replica stands near the ON 6 bridge on the Little Current waterfront, east of the town of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: The original lighthouse was one of six similar beacons built in the region, important for guiding vessels through the North Channel. Its replica serves as an architectural representation of this past and enhances the waterfront.
