About Lavaltrie Range Front Lighthouse
Built in 1915, this square concrete tower stands 4 meters tall with a focal height of 8 meters. Its exterior is painted red with a single black vertical stripe. The structure is a square tower with a lantern mounted on a concrete pier. This front range light emits a continuous green light, visible for 9.7 nautical miles. The site is open to the public, but the tower itself remains closed. It is situated on the east side of l'Île Hervieux, a low island off the Lavaltrie waterfront.
Why it matters: This range light guides vessels in a secondary channel on the north side of the St. Lawrence River, ensuring safe upstream passage.
