About Lanesgrunnen Lighthouse
This concrete lighthouse, standing 19 meters tall, marks the southern entrance to the Sandnessund channel. Its cylindrical structure features distinctive black and red horizontal bands. The focal plane is 11 meters above sea level, and it emits a white light with a characteristic of one white flash every five seconds. The original lantern has since been removed from the structure. The site is open to the public, but the tower itself is closed. It is located near Tromsø in the Troms region.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is critical for safe navigation through the Sandnessund, guiding vessels at its southern approach. It serves as the initial bearing for ships entering or exiting this channel on the west side of Tromsøya.
