Kalveneset Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Kalveneset Lighthouse
This 10-meter skeletal lighthouse is situated on a skerry off the northwestern tip of Kvitsøy in Norway's Rogaland county. The structure consists of four concrete piles supporting a round, white fiberglass lantern with a red roof. It emits a long flashing white, red, or green light on a 10-second cycle, with the color indicating the direction of approach. This current lighthouse replaced an earlier, simpler lantern on a concrete post. Its focal height reaches 16 meters, providing a geographic range of 12.2 nautical miles. The lighthouse is located 1.2 kilometers by sea from Kvitsoy.
Why it matters: The lighthouse's directional and color-changing light offers precise guidance, warning vessels of the skerry and aiding navigation through the complex Kvitsøy archipelago waters.
