About Isaac's Harbour Lighthouse
Built in 1929, this 13-meter wooden structure stands at the end of Isaac's Harbour Road, south of the community of Isaac's Harbour. It is a two-story keeper's house with a lantern and gallery centered on its roof. The house is painted white, with a red lantern and roof. A light station was first established at this site in 1874, but the current building dates from later. The lighthouse was inactive as of 2009. Despite a demolition proposal in 1990, it was saved by its federal heritage listing in June 2018. A private restoration effort began later that year.
Why it matters: The lighthouse is notable for its integrated design, combining a keeper's house and lantern on the roof, representing a specific style of early 20th-century light station construction. Community efforts were instrumental in its preservation, leading to its federal heritage designation.
