About Ingonish Island Lighthouse
A square, one-story wood building marks the site of the former Ingonish Island Lighthouse. The station was first established in 1871, with the original lighthouse structure demolished in 1954. A new, simpler building was constructed the same year, though its lantern has since been removed. The lighthouse property was transferred to Parks Canada in 1974, and the station has been inactive since 1987. The site is open to the public, but the tower itself remains closed.
