About Helgøya Lighthouse
Also known as: Helgøya (Helgøy)
This fiberglass tower, standing 6.5 meters tall, is painted white with three black horizontal bands. It is situated on Skjåholmskjæret, a skerry off the southern tip of Helgøy island, north of Ringvassøya. The lighthouse emits a white, red, or green light on a 6-second cycle, with geographic visibility extending 8.9 nautical miles. This structure replaced an earlier square wood tower. The site is open to the public, but the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: The lighthouse warns mariners of the Skjåholmskjæret skerry and guides them through channels around Helgøy and Ringvassøya, with its sector light providing precise guidance to avoid hazards.
