About Gävle Entrance No. 4 Lighthouse
A cylindrical concrete tower, standing 6 meters tall, was built in 1931 to mark the south side of the Gävle entrance channel. This structure, featuring a black horizontal band at its base and a lantern, was mounted on a concrete pier. It provided a geographic range of 8.9 nautical miles. The lighthouse served as a navigational aid for over eighty years. In 2014, as part of a project to dredge a new entrance channel, the tower was removed. The site remains open, although the tower is no longer accessible.
Why it matters: The removal of Gävle Entrance No. 4 in 2014 reflects the continuous adaptation of port infrastructure to accommodate larger vessels and evolving maritime routes.
