About Grand Island North Lighthouse
The Grand Island North Light Station, also referred to as the Old North Light, was constructed in 1867 and first illuminated in the same year. Standing 12 meters above the water, its light guided vessels from its post on the northern tip of Grand Island, near Munising, Michigan. The lighthouse is no longer operational. Its construction took place in Michigan's Eastern Upper Peninsula.
Why it matters: This structure was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
