About Gannet Rock Lighthouse
This white, 28-meter tower was first lit in 1831 on a rocky islet south of Grand Manan Island. Situated on Menaskook, a name given by the Passamaquoddy people, the lighthouse is 8 miles offshore in the Bay of Fundy. Its light has a geographic range of 19 nautical miles. The station was staffed until 1996, then solarized in 2002, and it continues to operate. However, the Canadian Coast Guard declared it surplus in 2010, and it is no longer maintained.
