About Frombork Range Rear Lighthouse
Also known as: Frauenburg
This 30m square red brick steeple, part of the Church of St Adalbert in Frombork, served as a navigational marker. The light was positioned beside the second highest window. The structure is situated on the southern edge of a lagoon, about 15.3 km from Elblag. This rear range light assisted ships in following a defined path across the lagoon waters. It stopped functioning in 2016. Visitors can access the site, but the tower itself is not open.
Why it matters: This rear range light was important for directing vessels through a specific channel in the lagoon near Frombork. Its location within the Church of St Adalbert steeple is an uncommon instance of a navigation aid incorporated into a significant community building.
