About Jastarnia Bór Lighthouse
Also known as: Heisternest
Built in 1872, the octagonal stone lighthouse at Jastarnia Bór measured 35 meters in height, featuring a lantern and gallery. Located on the Hel Peninsula about 6.5 kilometers east of Jastarnia, the structure served as a navigational aid. Its operational period concluded in 1936. In 1939, Polish forces destroyed the tower to deny its use as a daybeacon to German ships. Today, the site is an overgrown area with little remaining of the original construction.
Why it matters: The lighthouse's destruction by Polish forces in 1939 prevented its use by enemy ships, demonstrating its tactical importance during World War II.
