Farquhar Island Lighthouse

An octagonal wood tower, standing 12.5 meters tall, was constructed in 2023 on Farquhar Island in Callander Bay. This island sits in the eastern basin of Lake Nipissing, just off the Callander waterfront. The lighthouse displays a red light, characterized by an isophase red light on a 4-second cycle, with a focal height of 16 meters, providing a geographic range of 12.2 nautical miles. Painted white with a red lantern, the structure replaced a decorative lighthouse that was destroyed by a storm in 2006. Construction occurred through the spring of 2023, and the Canadian Coast Guard has since accepted it as an official aid.

Why it matters: This privately built and maintained light, officially recognized by the Coast Guard, marks the island for safe passage off the Callander waterfront, aiding recreational boaters and local traffic.
