About Espeneset Lighthouse
Also known as: #Espeneset (Espenes)
Espeneset Lighthouse once stood as a square white tower with a lantern and gallery on a sharp promontory marking the east side of Dromnessund. Its focal height was 6 meters, with a geographic range of 8.9 nautical miles. The light emitted a green flash every 3 seconds. This structure was replaced in 2018, and its light was moved approximately 50 meters offshore to a pole. The original tower was removed at that time.
Why it matters: The lighthouse was essential for safe passage through Dromnessund, warning mariners of the promontory. Its relocation offshore in 2018 reflects the modernization of navigation aids in Norway.
