An octagonal wooden tower was first established on Egg Island in 1865. This original structure was replaced after being damaged by fire. The current operational station features a square pyramidal steel skeletal tower, painted white, standing 14.5 meters tall and 7.5 meters above sea level. It was first lit in 1962 and emits a single white flash every 8 seconds. The tower was demolished in 2016 and replaced by a new tower of similar design. Egg Island is a rocky island located about 8 kilometers southeast of Owl's Head.
