About East Point Lighthouse
Also known as: East Point (Saturna Island)
The East Point Lighthouse is a square steel skeletal tower, painted red, standing 14 meters tall. Its light is positioned 37 meters above the water, casting a white flash every 15 seconds and visible for 16.6 nautical miles. The station was established in 1888, with the original lighthouse a 19-meter wooden structure. The current tower and light were constructed in 1948, replacing the earlier building. A keeper's house was added in 1960, and ownership of the station transferred to Parks Canada in 2006. The lighthouse is located at the eastern end of Saturna Island, marking the northern entrance to Boundary Pass from the Strait of Georgia.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is essential for safe navigation through the northern entrance of Boundary Pass and warns mariners of nearby shoals with its continuous red light. As part of the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve, the site is accessible to the public.
